By observing the production of an animated cartoon and through interviews with its different contributors, the aim of this paper is to understand how the collaboration and the positioning of the authors were co-ordinated in the case of a product designed for children. The authors of the original comic books were substantially involved in the creation of the derived animated cartoon, thus ensuring themselves a strong auctorial position, even if they tend to deny it themselves when they relate the production process. However, they were able to assume this position as authors by transmitting their intentions in various ways (meetings, e-mails, artistic contributions…). Their desire to control was partly diminished by the urgency of the project and by the large number of involved contributors who often work in isolation. From the author’s perspective, it is their expertise to address children that legitimates their controlling approach.
